A day at the mine

[this is good]
The Tilly Foster Mine was serviced by the Putnam Division of the (what is now the Metro North Commuter Railroad) New York Central Railroad.

Unfortunately, and as you are probably aware the Theall & McCollum mines site was demolished a month and a half ago :( However, there is an alternate way into the mines which you may know about. Please contact me about this
Hi Charles,

I am aware of the "Old Put" an it's service to Mahopac and Tilly Foster mines. The "Old Put continued freight service until the line was abandoned in 1962. The NY Central RR I believe did service the Theall Mine from a siding that was near the mine. McCullum ore was taken by cart to Croton Falls until the two mines were joined.

I was aware that the structures above the Theall mine were destroyed and that the mine entrance and (steam vent) shaft were filled in. I am not aware of an alternate entrance but would be very interested to learn of it. I do plan to visit the mine area again just have not nailed down a date or time. In my last post I think I recounted my last trip through the Theall and McCullum mines. I have more to post just have not gotten around to it in about a year now.
Check-out these photos of what seems to be an alternate entrance into the mine: http://hometown.aol.com/oldclock50/brewstermine.html

If this was the same entrance you took on a previous journey, please advise. But it seems to be on the side of a hill, not the typical mine-shaft entrance.
That is the Marvin mine in Brewster, behind the RR station in town. I have not been in that one, it is a bit more technical. The guys in the picture are from Ironminers.com, nice group of young people; we went through the Theall mine together.

The entrance you may be thinking of is the entrance to the McCullum mine, it is similar, it's off Daisy Lane.
